Hi!  This is Rachel Malay, director at the Port Library in Beloit. Recently the library applied for and won a grant to purchase Nintendo DS and 3DS games for check out to the public.  We’ll have about 30 new and new-to-the-library titles ready to check out now and a few more coming soon. If you have suggestions for new video games, DVDs, audiobooks, or books to purchase for the collection, the library is always willing to listen!

For my readers who like true crime and who like historical fiction, I’ve got a compelling new title for you to try out.  Burial Rites by debut author Hannah Kent tells the story of the last public beheading in Iceland. Agnes Magnusdotir has been stands accused of witchcraft and murder and is sent to the farthest reaches of northern Iceland pending execution in the spring. The wife and daughters on the farm are horrified at housing a witch capable of such violence, but their expectations are shattered when Agnes arrives, silent and docile. Mysteriously, Agnes chooses an assistant priest of the local church as her sole confidant. Throughout the months leading up to the execution, however, Agnes opens up to the women of the farm. Will the details revealed in her final months be enough to change the situation? As this book is historical fiction, the details may be fictionalized, while translated pieces of historic documents sprinkled between chapters remind the reader that the events really did happen.

You can get the book reviewed here and more great titles to watch, read, listen to, or play with at the Port Library at 1718 N. Hersey in Beloit, on the North Campus. This is director Rachel Malay, saying “Thanks for checking us out!”
