Reader's Advisory

What is reader's advisory?  Librarians are here and willing to answer the question, "What do I read next?"  We can also help with suggestions for DVDs and audiobooks.  If you have a personal research question (e.g.: I'm building a deck.  What home construction resources do you have?") we can gather or suggest resources for that too.  If you don't have time to come to the library, try the websites listed below:

Fantastic Fiction is a website that allows the user to look up author's and see what order their series are in, as well as books the author has written.

Fanfiction.net   Sad that your favorite author hasn't written more? Try reading some fan fiction. These are works written by amateur writers, based off the books and creations of professional writers.

Book Browse can help you find what to read next.  This site also provides a list of soon-to-be published books, author interviews, online book discussions, games, and the opportunity to sign up for your own account on the site.  The read-alike section can point you to similar authors to what you already love.

What Should I Read Next is a fairly simple website to use. Enter the name of a book or an author, find the exact match from a list displayed, and click on it to be taken to a list of similar books. The website is fueled by its users creating favorites lists.  If you want to influence the results on the website, sign up for a free account and start creating a favorites list yourself!

Which Book  Know what you like to read, but draw a blank when trying to think of similar authors or titles?  This website has an easy-to-use interface, letting you use sliders to determine how much of what characteristic, mood, or feature you'd like in a book.  You can also limit by e-book, audio book, or large print.

Stop, You're Killing Me is a great resource for lovers of mystery, crime, thriller, spy, and suspense books. The site lists series in order, stand alone novels, award winning lists, titles available in large print, and of course author and sub-genre read-alikes.

All About Romance says it all in the title. This website covers almost all aspects of romance novels, with discussions about authors, titles, and covers.  Mostly a website to collect romance novel reviews, readers can perform a "power search" to narrow down what to read next by author, setting, time period, and more.

FictFact helps you read your series fiction in order, and is especially helpful if the series you're reading is written by different authors, is published out of reading order, or the look of the covers has changed over the years. You can sign up for a free account and FictFact will keep track of what you should read next and send you reminders.

The Reader's Advisor Online is the online version of Greenwood Publishing Group's magazine Genreflecting. Clicking "Browse" in the upper left corner of the page will allow you to browse by topics, or you can narrow down to a subgenre with the next link, or read articles about various topics with the third link.  Each time a left side bar will help you narrow down what you're searching for.

a.k.a is short for "also known as." Pseudonyms or pen names are used frequently by authors to write anonymously.  Now you can navigate through a linked list and see real names in red, and linked pseudonyms in blue. This site is not fancy, and may not be as up to date as others.

TasteKid is a crowd-populated website that non-members can still search through for recommendations on what to read, view, or listen to next.  Select music, movies, shows, books, authors or video games from the tabs above the search bar.  Then type in a title or author and a list pops up showing how many people liked each recommendation.  You can click on a title to read a description.
