Hi!  This is Rachel Malay, director at the Port Library in Beloit. I hope everyone had a great New Year’s celebration and that you’re ready for a new year.

Danielle Steel is a very prolific author, mostly known for her romance and drama books for adults. However, did you know that earlier in her career she wrote children’s books? Her last foray into books for young readers was actually just 5 years ago. Now her second children’s picture book has made its way to the Port Library shelves. Pretty Minnie in Paris tells the story of a white long haired teacup Chihuahua named Minnie. Minnie’s owner is a young active girl named Francoise, whose mother happens to design fancy gowns. Little Minnie herself loves dressing up in beautiful doggie clothes, all except the snow suit! When her snowsuit is put on, all four of Minnie’s legs go stiff and she lies on her back until she can get out of it. At Minnie’s first fashion show, the little dog gets distracted and wanders away backstage before the show begins. When the lights and music come on, all Minnie wants is to be back in Francoise’s arms! Luckily, a model in a beautiful dress picks up Minnie on the runway and she is returned to her seat. Exhausted by the day’s events, little Minnie goes right to sleep at home. The next day, Minnie’s picture is in the paper. She’s famous! While this story is fictitious, an author picture in the back of the book reveals that Minnie herself is quite real, and spends her days being pampered by Danielle Steel herself.

You can get the book reviewed here and more great titles to watch, read, listen to, or play with at the Port Library at 1718 N. Hersey in Beloit.  This is director Rachel Malay, saying “Thanks for checking us out!”
