How many of my listeners are armchair travelers? Reading a book about a foreign country, checking out a travel guide, or looking at exotic dishes to cook can liven up anyone’s home life and now the library has another method of armchair traveling: Rick Steve’s Europe, the Complete Collection on 16 DVDs. Rick Steves is the host of the popular travel show aired on PBS that bears his name. He’s been traveling since 1989, although this DVD collection only features episodes from his European travels that have aired on TV from 2000 to the present.
There are episodes covering Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, Spain, Greece, Turkey, the Holy Land, many other Eastern European countries, plus specials, travel skills how-to, plus the making of the show and even a blooper reel. This DVD collection is over 57 hours in total, although you can check out up to 6 discs at a time.
Rick Steves is known for presenting a well-rounded picture of travel in each country, touching on both large tourist attractions, and quieter out of the way destinations. So if you need a totally free escape from your surroundings, give armchair travel by DVD a try at the Port Library.
You can get the DVDs reviewed here and more great titles to watch, read, listen to, or play with at the Port Library at 1718 N. Hersey in Beloit. This is director Rachel Malay, saying “Thanks for checking us out!”
